The
Beach
by
Artem Kholodenko
An
exciting film from the get-go, "The Beach" gets your
heart pumping and excitement level rising. Although
it's no "Titanic", Leonardo DiCaprio still has a chance
to show off his acting skills, portraying a US tourist
who gets a hold of a map to a forbidden paradise. Transporting
director Danny Boyle's adaptation of Alex Garland's
adventure novel about jaded Westerners trying to get
away from it all. An American traveler Richard (DiCaprio)
meets a thrill-hungry French couple who agrees to help
him find a secret Thai beach they imagine to be paradise.
But after barely surviving the trip, the trio encounters
drug commandos and a bizarre commune of international
drifters living in this supposed Eden. The basic idea
that the movie develops for the audience is that sometimes
in life, a single thrill is worth a lifetime and any
risks to achieve. In addition, there is no such thing
as paradise. Not matter how perfect something may seem;
there is always a hidden truth to it all. Nothing is
perfect, one just has to find the flaw before the flaw
catches up with him. Because once the flaw has gotten
you, there is no way out and you will perish along with
your pretentious utopia, as seem in the film. Overall,
the movie was a worthwhile experience and is recommended
to all Leo fans. It might not be an Oscar Winner, but
it sure has a lot of great scenery, which captivates
the eye.
