While
not seeming as the most deep and intriguing film, "Love
and Basketball" turned out to have one of the greatest and
deepest meanings. Starting out as a tale of two childhood
friends with a similar love for the game of basketball,
the plot morphs into the love of two friends and soon about
how no matter what happens, if two people love each other,
nothing - not time or people - will get in the way of those
feelings and emotions.
The movie is divided into four various time - lengths with
allusion to a basketball game's four quarters. The film
is great in displaying the evolution of people, feelings,
and thoughts. While growing up together, a boy and a girl
only grow to discover the fact that they love each other
and do grow together to a great relationship. Unfortunately,
the relationship comes to a halt as one's athletic career
bloomed and another's went under due family problems. The
problems involved cheating by the father, and this deeply
affected the ability of the player to perform on the court
because everything the father said seemed to be a lie.
The director of the film did a great job in displaying how
certain events in a person's life can affect every other
aspect of it. One slight realization of truth can make a
person see the world in a total new light - sometimes a
dark one. Life is not nor perfect and it should be treated
as such. To expect everything to be good without doing anything
to make it and keep it so takes effort and hard work. People
who go the distance deserve the best because they show that
they want to achieve something and would do anything to
get it. The film was excellent and it gets an A.
