"Here
we go again!" was probably a phrase, which many mumbled
when it came to the trailer of "Frequency". Appearing to
be just another sci-fi time rippling flick, the movie didn't
bring much uniqueness to the screen; luckily, it proved
us wrong in the theater.
The basic plot of "Frequency" involves a father in '69 and
his grown up son in '99 being able to communicate through
a ham radio due to temporary magnetic fields in earth's
atmosphere. As always, when it comes to time, one new event
or move can have long lasting and drastic effects, as happened
here. When saving his dad from death, the '99 version of
the son caused a change in the space - time - continuum
and allowing a killer (not his dad) to live and kill an
additional 7 women, including his mother. Now the time -
cracking duo must use their cop/firefighter skills to prevent
the disasters from actually occurring.
The film is one of the few that can actually be compared
with the suspense of the Oscar - nominated "Six Sense".
The unpredictable sequences and events lead to closing usually
present loopholes. Sitting in the theater seat, one doesn't
wonder what's going to happen (of course he does, but not
as much as…), but instead, how it's going to happen; that
is the basic idea of a sci-fi / mystery. The movie gave
it's best try and it succeeded to an almost perfect score.
Of course some minor improvements would have been possible,
such as a bit more twisting of the mind with the murder
cases. In the first scenes of the movie, news about a murderer
are announced over a car radio. May be I've seen too many
movies, or I just am good, but I predicted that, that is
exactly what the film is going to be surrounding - not that
fun to be able to tell form the first few seconds of the
picture. Otherwise it was great and I would recommend to
anyone who wants to get a real rush to go and see it!
