TU MAMA TAMBIEN
Synopsis
Directed by Mexican-born, New York-based Alfonso Cuaron,
this movie broke box-office records and stirred controversy
when it opened in Mexico this summer. With their girlfriends
away on a European holiday, 17-year-old friends Julio
and Tenoch anticipate a summer of promiscuity. Soon, though,
they meet Luisa, the 28-year-old wife of Tenoch’s cousin
who changes their sexual lives forever.
Review
Every
year there is usually a small handful of films that really
get the audience thinking about more than just what is
on the screen. "Y Tu Mama Tambien" is exactly
that movie!
With
its explicit scenery and dialog, the film seems as a nearly-porno
for the nonobservant viewer, the
movie presents a web of relationships and heartaches that
fill the daily lives of both teens and adults.
The
three main personas of the film each represent individuals
at different stages of their lives. Although the teens
are both exactly that, each comes from a different back
ground, with Tenoch being of wealth, and Julio being a
commoner. Each is full of fears and hopes that transpire
through the film. Luisa is a completely different story,
being a grown individual living in the "real world".
However She faces the same fears and hopes as the boys.
Generally the film is a must see and will have everyone
coming out of the theater with a different understanding.
