NOT
ANOTHER TEEN MOVIE
Synopsis
Joel Gallen's feature-film debut -- after directing "Sex
and the Matrix" and "Being Tom Cruise," two short spoofs
for the MTV Movie Awards -- pokes fun at the conventions
and cliches of the "teen movie" genre. Janey Briggs is
an aspiring artist shunned by her classmates for wearing
glasses, a ponytail and paint-covered overalls; Jake Wyler,
an all-American football star, makes a foolish bet to
turn her into a prom queen.
Review
An
Oscar winner it is not; a classic it is not, yet when
it comes to disgusting parodies and jokes taken to new
lows and extremes "Not Another Teen Movie" takes the grand
prize.
Combining some of the humor from the teen films of the
past few years, the plot centers mainly around the "She's
All That" film with "American Pie", "Varsity Blues", "Bring
It On", and others in the mix.
Nothing
positive can be said about this picture except that it
did point out a number of funny aspects of movies that
we have come to know and love. Yet this film should not
be at the top of anyone's movie list and should simply
be written down to be watched on the phonebook propping
up the coffee table.
Teens might enjoy its low-brow humor, while self-respecting
adults will fight the outtakes ridiculous and inappropriate.
It will be like watching all those teen movies you'd seen
before with worse actors cast in the roles.
