RUSH
HOUR 2
Synopsis
In case you didn't get enough the first time around, Jackie
Chan and Chris Tucker are back in this sequel to the 1998
blockbuster Rush Hour. As seen at the end of the first
movie, Detective James Carter travels back to Hong Kong
with his new friend, Detective Lee, to fight Chinese crooks.
Review
When you mix up two extremes such as Jackie Chan and Chris
Tucker all that could come out of it is a soup of humor
and action. In this sequel to the surprise runaway hit
of 1998, the now-known characters find themselves in situations
more humorous and unbelievable than ever before.
Although
it seems that the two are barely acting and are simply
being their usual laugh/punch combo, the character of
Lee (Jackie Chan) seems to become more Americanized in
his ideas. While a sequel, the film seems more like a
mirror image of the original. Due to the fact that the
first half of the movie takes place in Hong Kong - in
other words on Lee's turf, the character of Chris Tucker
is the one that has to adjust to his environment, unlike
the original picture. Many key phrases are now said by
Tucker's Asia counterpart.
Yet the film is not all laughter and action. Certain elements
of the plot to present themselves as intriguing and thought-provoking.
Surprisingly there is even a plot twist involved that
is not too easily predicted.
As rarely as this is said, it must be toward Rush Hour
2. The film is an excellent sequel that equals if not
surpasses the original in a number of the key entertainment
aspects. From what it seems, definitely expect a third
installment of what could be Chris Tucker's ultimate claim
to fame. (We all know that Jackie Chan has already made
a big enough name for himself not to need additional claim
to fame.)
