Scary
Movie 2
Synopsis
The
original Scary Movie grossed over $42 million in its opening
weekend, the largest-ever opening for a film by an African-American
director and the most successful three-day debut ever
of any R-rated film. Now the Wayans brothers are back
with the sequel they promised not to make, this time spoofing
the demon-possession genre of horror movies. A year after
Doofy Gilmore killed several dumb teenagers, a new killer
returns to kill Cindy and some more stupid teens.
Review
Unless
you like to waste your freedom on bird-diarrhea jokes
and chronic cracks, then taking in this sequel to the
Wayans bros' popular Scary Movie will prove pretty frightening
indeed.
It's like In Living Color: The Halloween Edition, and
the fragmented, skit-styled jokes are just more of the
same--and not as good--as the original. And the plot?
That's just an apparition. Mixing parodies of recent flicks
like Dude, Where's My Car? and Charlie's Angels with spoofs
on classic supernatural cinema like The Exorcist and Poltergeist
makes for an uneven ride.
In fact, you'd have to see as many movies as Roger Ebert,
bone up on current events and pay attention to TV commercials
to just pick up on the would-be jokes. And that's too
much work for this not-so-killer time.
