Kiss
of the Dragon
Synopsis
Jet
Li and Bridget Fonda star in this action-thriller, cowritten
by Luc Besson (La Femme Nikita, The Professional) and
Mark Kamen (The Karate Kid). The film revolves around
a Chinese intelligence officer who goes to Paris on assignment,
only to become embroiled in a deadly conspiracy. Kiss
of the Dragon's reportedly breathtaking action sequences
are choreographed by Corey Yuen, who also worked on X-Men
and Romeo Must Die.
Review
He
may not be as muscular as Bruce Lee or as funny as Jackie
Chan, but it sure is a blast to watch Jet Li kick the
crêpe out of the bad French dudes in this film.
Shying away
from the recent surge of overstylized and computer-enhanced
kung fu found in The Matrix and Romeo Must Die, Li is
left up to his equally stunning Earth-bound abilities
when he plays a Chinese cop set up by a supercorrupt French
policeman.
The Patriot's
Tchéky Karyo is the lawless man who's also running prostitutes,
drugs and a kidnapping ring (and has armies of fools at
his disposal for Li to beat down). Bridget Fonda is a
hooker-junkie who only wants to save her child. Or something
like that. But who cares, we want some action. And you
won't be disappointed when the hero uses everything from
pool balls to chopsticks and a bracelet full of acupuncture
needles as lethal weapons.
