Crazy
/ Beautiful
Synopsis
Set
at Pacific Palisades High, this film's story focuses on
a poor Latino boy (Jay Hernandez) who falls hard for a
troubled girl (Kirsten Dunst) from an affluent neighborhood,
and the ensuing complications of this culture-clash-ridden
relationship.
Review
Cheery
teen queen Kirsten Dunst strips off her goody-two-shoes
image (and most of her clothing) in this realistic tale
of troubled high school love and even more troubling times.
She's
a rich, white party-girl on a path of self-destruction.
He's a smart, athletic Latino from the wrong side of L.A.
who's on the straight and narrow. So, what happens when
Dunst and newcomer Jay Hernandez get together? They fall
in love and deal with issues of class and culture (and
always look good). While you've probably seen this story
before, crazy/beautiful dodges many stereotypes, respectfully
draws its modern teenage characters (the way they dress,
talk and hang out) and rarely falls into lecturing TV
After-School-Special land. Bring it on.
