EVOLUTION
Synopsis
Director
Ivan Reitman's new comedy, to open on the 17th anniversary
of the release of his mega-hit Ghostbusters (June 8, 1984),
stars David Duchovny, Orlando Jones and Julianne Moore.
Chaos breaks out when a meteor crashes on Earth, bearing
one-celled organisms that begin evolving at a pace exponentially
faster than that which characterizes human evolution.
As the film begins, four investigators examine the organisms,
which are kept within the confines of a cave. But what
will happen when they escape into the human world?
Review
It's
no Ghostbusters (and thankfully no Ghostbusters 2), but
director Ivan Reitman's latest still oozes plenty of fun...and
slime.
When
a meteor crashes to Earth, cutup college professors David
Duchovny and Orlando Jones (along with clumsy scientist
Julianne Moore and dumb-ass wannabe-fireman Seann William
Scott) discover that it has brought breeding, hyper-evolving
aliens to the planet. And the beasties that eventually
appear are threatening to overrun the world. So, of course,
they've gotta save the day.
The
plot is pretty much a carbon copy of Ghostbusters' framework,
but Duchovny's wry sense of humor and Jones' goofball
antics click. Like a little puppy, you can't help but
love this light summer comedy, even when it's acting stupid.
Let's just say it grows on you.
