THE
DISH
Synopsis
Set
in Parkes, Australia, in 1969, this is the story of a
satellite dish installation that served as a relay between
NASA and Apollo 11 during their historic mission to the
moon. Disaster threatens to strike as a local blackout
causes NASA to lose track of the ship.
Review
"The
Dish" is what satire is really about. By combining
a number of elements depicting the genre, the director
of the film achieved hidden humor that keeps the audience
laughing for hours.
By
involving the audience in a worldwide known event, the
film creates a connection with its observers. When the
humorous crew of mathematicians is struck with its first
dilemma, one sits on the edge of the seat and wondering
the outcome...while being 100% aware of the historical
details.
In
addition, small subplots, such as a possible romantic
relationship between one of the dish operators and a lunch
delivery woman, plus between the daughter of the mayor
and a boyscout from hell add to the humor of it all.
In
general, the film succeeds as ridiculing some of the basic
individuals one comes across in life, making the film
appealing to a wide variety of audience.
