DOWN
TO EARTH
Synopsis
Not
to be confused with Here on Earth or Down to You, this
is a remake of 1941's Here Comes Mr. Jordan, which was
incidentally also remade in 1978 by Warren Beatty as Heaven
Can Wait. Deep breath: A comedian, played by Chris Rock,
dies and finds that there's "no room" for him in Heaven,
so he's sent back to earth in another body...that of a
rich, chubby white guy. What's more, he finds himself
falling in love with a crusading social activist, Regina
King.
Review
While
the idea of "Down to Earth" is not as original
as it might seem on the big screen, the humor and laugher
of the picture is as original as it comes. Chris Rock
brings as fresh taste to the screen that is not seen often
in films.
Although
the interesting fact to the viewer is that Chris Rock
seems not to be acting at all and is himself. While playing
the character of Lance, Rock acts relaxed and shows his
skills on stage as well as on screen.
Hopefully
the trend of talented comedians will continue throughout
this year and win some awards for the comedic aspect.
