THE
GRID
Synopsis
Welcome
to a modern - day sci - fi story about an architectural
firm, which is ending the work on a new building dubbed
the "Gridiron". The building is "top of
the line" hi - tech and luxurious, with the computer,
Abraham, controlling all of the systems, including life
- support, security, restrooms, and nearly everything
else. Everything is going smoothly - until, suddenly,
dead bodies of the employees begin to show up through
out the building and at the climax, the employees get
trapped, with no way out but death.
Review
Books
are written to make the reader think and that is exactly
the characteristic The Grid achieves. As mentioned
in the synopsis, the novel is set on the site of a newly
constucted smart building in which a computer system goes
haywire and begins to kill the occupants.
This idea stretches the ideas of today, since we are living
in and dealing with a computer age - the I-Generation.
The mere thought of computers taking over has been implemented
in a number of written, as well as filmed works. Movies
that erected the words of an artificially - minded self
- learning machine include the Terminator series, the
Universal Soldier series and many others.
While the plot of the book does not seem to have an completely
original soul, the author gives it its own life, with
realistic characters and conversations. The novel is great,
easy to read, and goes by in a flash. The
Grid
is on our recommended list.
